We have a winner! I'm thrilled to announce that 'You Are Lennon' was the winning play at this year's Ticket to Write festival, as voted for by our judges and the audience. We had a wonderful run at Liverpool's lovely Unity Theatre, and it was fantastic to meet our winning writer, local lad and Beatles fan Patrick Maguire. The photo is the winning cast (and brilliant directors, Darren Begley and Rio Matchett).
Second was the USA entry Stalking The Beatles written by Maureen Brady Johnson from Oberlin, Ohio. Third was Londoner Rob Taylor with Face in a Jar. "All three plays were warmly applauded by the large audiences who turned out to see them. I'd like to thank our super judges Clare Dow and Ian Kellgren, Rio Matchett and her production team, all the writers, the acting team and the many people who are always essential to make such an event a success," said Producer Jamie Gaskin.
Also, after weeks of being Aunt Mimi in rehearsal and on stage I have now developed a worrying addiction to knitting. Anyone need a really long scarf? Blanket?
In more exciting theatre news, our production of Icepicks and Violets in Heswall with Doug Scott was the best selling event in the history of the Arts Festival. Apart from enjoying a great performance in front of an appreciative audience, we raised over £4,000 for Community Action Nepal. Delighted. Working with writer, composer, and performer Dean Johnson is always a joy, and adding Doug into the team was the icing on the cake!
TV and Film
Bay TV debut! The lovely people from our local TV channel, Bay TV, came to film before the final performance of Macbeth at the boat museum for their Arts Alive show. You can find the whole show on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hzWprkTc3k
Filming begins next month on The Con Game with Lumino films. Can't wait to work with these great people!
