In Theatreland

We have a winner! I'm thrilled to announce that 'You Are Lennon' was the winning play at this year's Ticket to Write festival, as voted for by our judges and the audience. We had a wonderful run at Liverpool's lovely Unity Theatre, and it was fantastic to meet our winning writer, local lad and Beatles fan Patrick Maguire. The photo is the winning cast (and brilliant directors, Darren Begley and Rio Matchett).

Second was the USA entry Stalking The Beatles written by Maureen Brady Johnson from Oberlin, Ohio. Third was Londoner Rob Taylor with Face in a Jar. "All three plays were warmly applauded by the large audiences who turned out to see them. I'd like to thank our super judges Clare Dow and  Ian Kellgren, Rio Matchett and her production team, all the writers, the acting team and the many people who are always essential to make such an event a success," said Producer Jamie Gaskin.

Also, after weeks of being Aunt Mimi in rehearsal and on stage I have now developed a worrying addiction to knitting. Anyone need a really long scarf? Blanket?

In more exciting theatre news, our production of Icepicks and Violets in Heswall with Doug Scott was the best selling event in the history of the Arts Festival. Apart from enjoying a great performance in front of an appreciative audience, we raised over £4,000 for Community Action Nepal. Delighted. Working with writer, composer, and performer Dean Johnson is always a joy, and adding Doug into the team was the icing on the cake!

TV and Film

Bay TV debut! The lovely people from our local TV channel, Bay TV, came to film before the final performance of Macbeth at the boat museum for their Arts Alive show. You can find the whole show on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hzWprkTc3k

Filming begins next month on The Con Game with Lumino films. Can't wait to work with these great people!

June 2015

My first experience of every actors best/worst scenario: competing offers of work!

Very reluctantly had to turn down an offer of a role with a wonderful Shakespeare company to begin rehearsals on two new pieces: a newly commissioned adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, and a new musical based on the lives of Mallory and Irvine.

Gutted and excited at the same time! More information to follow soon xx

January 2015

I’ve been lucky enough to attend acting classes in sunny LA this month – the perfect way to spend a snowy January!

Massive thanks to Victoria Burrows (Casting Director) for a really interesting, insightful, realistic, and encouraging talk / Q&A on the industry in LA.

February 2015

Final showcase for the Ultimate Acting Programme at the Century Club in Soho. This has been an amazing, transformative year for me, and i'm so grateful to all of our tutors, especially Brian and Joe, who managed to be intimidating and hugely inspirational at the same time.

May 2015

First feature film role completed! Principal photography has just wrapped on BoXeD, my first leading role. Great experience with lovely, generous people, including my very patient director, Daniel Finney :)

Look out for excerpts from it appearing in my showreel soon.

More dates to be announced soon.

Really enjoying ongoing rehearsals for Icepicks and Violets with the lovely Dean Johnson - so proud of this show, and to be paying tribute to two such amazing men.

August 2015

Delighted to announce that I've been cast in this year's Ticket to Write festival in a new play based on the life of John Lennon, by Patrick Maguire. You Are Lennon will be produced at Liverpool's Unity Theatre on 16th and 17th October 2015. I'm honoured to be playing John's aunt, Mimi Smith.

Principal photography wrapped on Now I Am Become Death this month. I had an amazing experience with lovely, talented, hardworking people. I want to name and thank everyone, but this update would go on forever! So I'll just thank writer and director Thomas Houston and producer Dane Jones, the brains behind bringing this to the screen. Thanks for getting me involved guys, you've been amazing to work with. I can't wait to see the film.

September 2015

Two premieres this month! Chalice Media’s brilliant production of Macbeth took place at the Forum Theatre in Chester. Loved working with this company and playing Lady Macduff. We will be touring the production around the northwest starting next week.

Friday 11th saw the premiere of Ice Picks and Violets: A Musical Biography of Mallory and Irvine at the Heron Theatre in Cumbria. It was really well received, and I was honoured to be part of a show that commemorates two such incredible men. We will be performing in Penrith, Heswall, and London over the next few months with the first English man to summit Everest, Doug Scott.

Rehearsals for ‘I Am Lennon’ start this week. Can’t wait!

November 2015

Theatre

It's been a wonderful month of performances of Icepicks and Violets, including at the Rheged Centre, as part of the Mountain Arts Festival in the beautiful Lake District, and at Sandy Irvine's old school in Birkenhead. We were also invited to give a performance at an old haunt of George Mallory's - Treadwells book shop in Soho. This performance was with a special guest - the brilliant Nicholas Ball - a true gentleman and scholar. It was an absolute pleasure to work with him.

TV and Film

Also had a joyous time in Shropshire, filming on The Con Game with Lumino Films. The director, Jane Sanger, was fantastic to work with, putting everyone at their ease, and the crew were brilliant - entirely unperturbed by rain and cold! My new favourite co-star is now Murphy the shire horse. An absolute beauty, and hit his mark every time! :) Really looking forward to the finished film.

December 2015

New Dickensian premiere at the Lantern Theatre, Liverpool with Dean Johnson and Leah Taffe. West End premiere next month with the gentleman and acting scholar Nicholas Ball as our Scrooge. Can't wait!

Family commitments abound this month, so that's all the performing for me, but I did have the great privilege of seeing Mark Rylance in the final night of Farinelli and the King by Clare Kemper. What a fantastic performance in a wonderful show. Loved it.
